This has folks from the Panhandle to the Gulf Coast wondering if we’ve been led down a dusty trail by slick marketing and false promises. Our kids see the slick ads, the fruity flavors, the ‘cool’ factor, thinking they’re just puffin’ on flavored air. Here in Texas, we value grit and common sense. The idea that you can inhale chemical vapor into your lungs, day in and day out, and not pay a heavy price, is about as likely as a cactus blooming in a blizzard. Our state health departments have been trying to get this message out, but the allure of the new shiny thing is often too strong for our youngsters.

These devices often contain nicotine, an incredibly addictive substance, alongside a host of other chemicals like formaldehyde and acrolein, which are known carcinogens. This is a full-blown chemical assault on the body. Major medical organizations like the American Medical Association and the World Health Organization have been sounding the alarm for years, urging stricter regulations and public awareness campaigns.

This is our problem, right here in the heartland, affecting our families and our communities. It’s time we called a spade a spade and stopped pretending that these vape pens are anything but a wolf in sheep’s clothing, luring in our youth with sweet promises and delivering bitter consequences. Let’s protect our future, our kids, and our communities from a danger that’s quickly turning out to be far more sinister than we ever imagined.
